Created in 2012, the "Diversity and Inclusion" Awards (DANDI Awards) recognize individuals and organizations that demonstrate exceptional commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion within their teams, workplaces and their markets in general. Hosted by Tai Beauchamp, an expert from Style and Lifestyle, and sponsored by the Diversity Global Magazine, Diversity Woman, Sugarleaf Vineyards, The New York Times and Mars North America, the ceremony is the first of its kind to bring together 22 organizations and individuals represented in several categories.

After a warm welcome and words of thanks from the organizers, Cheryl Gentry and Sherry Snipes, the evening began with an opening speech by Janet Torres, Senior Policy Analyst in the Executive Chamber of the office of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and by Reverend George Edward Holmes, a member of the National African American Clergy Leadership Working Group of President Barack Obama. All the participants emphasized the importance of the initiatives around diversity and inclusion in the work environment.
